Cherry Tree Class

Mission Statement

By the time they reach Cherry Tree Class the children are familiar with the routines of school.  We focus on encouraging them to take more responsibility for their learning and on developing their  independence. The children learn how to proof-read and edit their work in all subjects, as well as giving kind and constructive feedback to others.  We look at this through the lens of ‘Two Stars and a Wish’- two things that we think worked really well, and one improvement that can be made. We are striving, as we do across the school, to emphasise that mistakes are a good thing – something that we can learn from – and that there is always room for improvement but also to stop and think about what we are proud of and what we have achieved.

Learning is cross-curricular with a strong focus on discussion, both in partners and in groups. We enjoy working practically and asking lots of questions about our learning. Each week, we take stock of what we have covered that week with our ‘Review of Learning’ which we add to our wall and come back to, showing at the end of the term just how much we’ve covered!  We build confidence, responsibility and cohesion, working with everyone in the class across the year and finding that we all have something to offer each other.

As a mixed age group class lessons are often taught together with differentiated tasks though there are opportunities for the year groups to be taught separately – for instance PE, recorders, or personal, social & health education.

Cherry Tree Class 22.9.20

22nd September 2020

The children have settled in well so far, and I was so impressed by their listening and effort in their first PE session with Debbie today, where they were working on throwing and catching.

PE will take place on a Monday and Tuesday afternoon, and the children will be on the field where possible. With this in mind, please could they come to school in their PE kits on a Monday and a Tuesday, with trainers and hair tied back if it is long. No jewellery should be worn, though we have plenty of ear tape for earrings!

Cherry Tree Class 11th September

11th September 2020

Hello everyone,

It has been a very busy week in Cherry Tree class! We have all settled in very nicely, getting used to a new room, new people, and new routines. We have been reading the fantastic book ‘Here We Are’ by Oliver Jeffers, and using this to inspire our English and PSHE work, thinking about space, our world, and our environment.

We have yet to set a class timetable beyond the first two weeks, so with any PE the children do they will be fine to wear their school uniforms. Once a time has been decided upon, we will let you know.

On this note, please could the children bring in a carrier bag on Monday so we can send books from last year home.

Thank you all so much for a great week. The Year 2s have created their own version of the song ‘Wonderful World’, which I hope you will all enjoy reading:

What a Wonderful World

By Year 2

The world is beautiful,

The world is colourful,

The deer run in the green grass,

The black horse runs in the field,

We love all the animals,

Dogs can work and play,

Happy whales swimming in the sea,

Humpback whales blue and big,

I swim in the sea,

Pretty roses are red.
