Useful Maths and Literacy Links

Dear Parents / Carers,

Following are some links that might be found useful in helping children in Cherry Tree class with their Literacy and Maths. Many of the websites have a variety of useful games that can be used across different maths objectives, or different approaches to helping your child learn their weekly spellings.

Please note that in year 2 and year 3 the children are expected to learn the following times tables by heart, so they can recall the facts out of order rather than just by counting on:

Year 2- 2, 5, and 10 times table.

Year 3- 3, 4, and 8 times table.

This information, with all the links, will also be added to the Cherry Tree Class page on our school website.

Purple Mash

All children have an individual log-in for Purple Mash. I will add their details into the front of their reading record books so they can access the site from home.

Maths

2 Race – times tables games, addition and subtraction racing games

2 Simple Table Toons – good songs for learning times tables, different options

Bond Bubbles – number facts

Sequence Snake- navigate the snake into the next number in the pattern

nrich – maths investigations and games

Literacy

Spelling Resources- Make your own spelling quiz. Enter your spellings from your list, you then have to move the tiles to spell them, but beware of the trick letters.

Purple Mash- Grammar- Word Work

Range of activities looking at adjectives and vocabulary

Phonics- Phase 5 – activities to make words using these phonics

Maths (specifically times tables and the four main operations, + – / x)

All listed here are very useful, across year 2 and year 3.

Please note the second link is across KS2, so not all objectives will be appropriate.

MATHS FRAME

https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/category/7/multiplication-and-division

Excellent multiplication and division games. I didn’t list any specifically because they are all great to explore!

We have also been learning how to tell the time to fifteen and five minutes. I found this site really useful. In Year 3, children begin to read the time on a digital clock that runs on both the 12 and 24 hour sequence.

NRICH

https://nrich.maths.org/

Nrich was set up by the University of Cambridge and offers a wide range of problems to challenge children of all ages. We would recommend exploring and trying out their games and puzzles to build on problem solving skills.

Literacy

Listed below are links to games and websites that can help with the learning of spellings and phonics. We will be sending spellings home, and any of these may be useful in helping your child to learn these or other common words they will come across.

The recapping of times tables and spellings does not need to be excessive, little and often will do wonders! Thank you for your support, and if you have any questions, please do come and find me.
